Where Every Voice and Every Note Finds Its Joy
AK School of Music offers warm, encouraging voice and piano lessons for ages 5 through adult — a judgment-free zone where confidence grows, creativity sparks, and a lifelong love of music begins.
There's Nothing Quite Like Learning Side by Side
In-person lessons at AK School of Music give students the full experience — Annette can hear every nuance of a student's voice, watch their posture at the piano, and respond in real time with the kind of hands-on guidance that truly accelerates growth. Annette completed specialized online lesson training through TMO, which means her virtual lessons are just as structured, engaging, and effective as in-person sessions. No commute, no scheduling stress — just 30 minutes of focused, joyful learning from wherever you're most comfortable.
Immediate, Hands-On Feedback
Annette can catch a breath support issue or a hand position habit the moment it starts — and correct it with warmth and encouragement before it becomes ingrained.
Flexible for Busy Families
Choosing either online or in-person lessons gives each student and family the flexibility for what makes sense for their unique situation. Whether it's coming to lessons and creating a ritual students look forward to each week or online lessons fitting into your family's schedule without adding stress, making it easier to stay consistent week after week, AK School of Music can accommodate that need!
Real-Time Connection
The energy between teacher and student is something special — laughter, games, spontaneous musical moments, and the kind of encouragement that stays with a student long after they leave—AND it all translates beautifully online as well. Students thrive because Annette's teaching style is built on connection, not just presence.
In-person and online programs
A Curriculum Built for Real Growth
Every lesson is packed with purpose. Voice students develop proper vowel formation, diaphragmatic breathing, intonation techniques, sight-singing skills, and the expressive delivery that makes a performance truly memorable. Piano students build proper technique, rhythm, music reading, ear training, and the repertoire and performance preparedness they need to take the stage with confidence. Theory and sight-reading are woven into every lesson, giving students a musical foundation that serves them for life.

Recitals, Contests & the Homeschool Choir
Students at AK School of Music don't just practice — they perform. Each spring, students take the stage at our studio recital to share what they've worked so hard to build. Voice students preparing for school music contests have earned consistent "1" ratings under Annette's guidance, and homeschool families have a special home in the Phillips County Home School Choir, which Annette directs with the same joy and care she brings to every private lesson.

A Studio Students Come Back to Year After Year
A large retention rate from year to year speaks for itself — students stay because they're growing, thriving, and genuinely enjoying the process. Annette's encouraging, game-filled approach keeps even the youngest learners engaged and eager to return each week. Three former students have gone on to teach music themselves, and two more are currently studying music education in college — proof that what begins in this studio can last a lifetime.

Almost Three Decades of Turning Students Into Performers
I'm Annette Kennedy, and music has been the through-line of my entire life. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from Kansas State University, spent years teaching vocal music in public schools from 5th grade all the way through 12th, direct the Phillips County Home School Choir, and have performed in choral organizations that have shaped the way I hear and teach music. With nearly 30 years in music education — and additional training in online instruction through Teach Music Online— I've had the privilege of guiding over 500 students on their musical journeys. Three of my former students now teach music themselves, and two more are currently in college music education programs. That, to me, is the highest compliment a teacher can receive.
I specialize in beginning and intermediate voice and beginning piano for all ages. Whether I'm helping a 5-year-old discover the joy of singing, preparing a middle schooler for a music contest (where my students have earned consistent "1" ratings), or helping an adult reignite a love of the piano they set aside years ago, I bring the same warmth and enthusiasm to every single lesson. I believe in celebrating every small win — because in this studio, progress is always worth cheering for. Learning happens through encouragement, games, laughter, and a whole lot of heart.
My goal has never just been to teach notes on a page. It's to spark creativity, build genuine confidence, and nurture a love for performing music that lasts a lifetime. This is a judgment-free zone where mistakes are welcomed as part of the process and every student — young or grown — is met exactly where they are. I can't wait to make music with you.

What students are saying
“"Ms. Annette has shared her knowledge and love for music with my son for 2 years. He loves working with her and has flourished in his ability to sing different songs."”
“"My son started taking online voice lessons in January. His love of singing has definitely grown and he has already learned/improved so much. Annette is wonderful and so patient with him. I highly recommend."”
“"My daughter has grown so much over the past two years as a student of Ms. Annette. She has earned I Ratings on Vocal Solos at KSHSAA State Music Contest both years she has been a student thanks in part to Ms. Annette’s help selecting and rehearsing appropriate and challenging music, including foreign language pieces. She also helped her to prepare for a successful college music audition where she received an excellent music scholarship. In addition to the achievements she has helped make possible, Ms. Annette has been an encourager and mentor helping to inspire and mold a future music educator. I highly recommend private lessons with Ms. Annette to anyone looking to improve as a musician, as the focused individual attention that she can provide is a great supplement to classroom instruction and we have seen significant growth, maturity and improvements in breath support and diction as a result of this studio building confidence."”
“"Our family has loved having Ms. Annette as our kids' choir teacher this year. She has helped my kids come out of their shell and try new things. We are all looking forward to next year."”
“Annette is amazing. She loves working with the kids and has such a passion for music. She teaches them so much and the kids love her classes. She really truly has a love for teaching music to children and it shows. Our daughter has learned so much and is always excited for class."”
Every student deserves a teacher who believes in them before they believe in themselves.
At AK School of Music, that belief is built into every single 30-minute lesson.
